Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, India

India
From soaring snow mountains of the far north to the steamy sun-washed beaches, India’s dramtic terrain is breathtaking. Along with abundant natural beauties, exquisitely carved temples rise majestically out of pancakeflat deserts and old fotresses peer over plunging ravines. Aficionados of the great outdoors can scout for big jungle cats on wildlife safaris, paddle in the shimmering waters of one of many beautiful beaches, take blood pumping treks high in the Himalaya, or simply inhale pine-scented air on meditative forest walks.

Udaipur
Royal Capital of a divine dynasty or languid lake city, Udaipur, was founded in 1567 by Maharana Udai of Mewar. Dotted with marble palaces, gardens and fountain pavilions, Udaipur appeals to the imagination of poets, painters, travellers and writers. The city’s inherent romance, beauty and its remarkable past, redolent with episodes of heroism and splendour. Surrounded by hills and mountains and set on the edge of three lakes which lead on to a fertile plain – it is truly an enchanting city.

Gangaur Cruise
The heritage ceremonial imperial barge of the house of Mewar glides across the mystical Lake Pichola illuminated with candlelight and steered by oarsmen dressed in resplendent costumes. Sip your favourite cocktail and enjoy sumptuous delicacies from a live grill under a canopy of stars.

Cultural Show
The cultural show at Jhankar courtyard is followed by a shadow dance. Treat your senses to this hour-long spectacle organised in the “Jhankar Courtyard”. You can add a royal touch to the experience by choosing from an internationally regarded wine collection.

The Vintage coupé glides to a stop at the lake’s edge that, it’s hard to believe the floating vision in marble is real. Blink, and indeed, there is a luminous palace emerging from the mist. Suddenly you are in a boat, drifting even closer and the reality doesn’t disappoint. With the Aravalli Mountains and city palaces as a backdrop one gets an impending sense of enchantment. The palace has romantic rooms and every suite holds a story and among the most compelling is The Chandra Prakash Suit (meaning Lustre of the Moon). The decorative gilt mouldings, sculpted marble columns, and fine fretwork screens impressed even the Maharaja who held court in this very room in the 1930s. There are countless unique experiences to be had, sail into a purple sunset on a 150 year old Gangaur complete with candlelight and resplendently dressed oarsmen, indulge in a heritage walk with an escort followed by a glass of sparkling wine at the bar, soak in the sounds and sights of the city as your royal butler accompanies you on a shopping trip etc. In this royal dream, anything is possible.
